CREATING SPACE FOR YOURSELF

I believe that it is more important than ever to create a beautiful space for yourself. We all need a place to get away from everything, and the space to reconnect with ourselves.

All this time at home has given me time to look at my house and ask myself if it is working for me? My kids and husband are all home now. My home is now a gym, workspace, movie theater, school, library, restaurant, and more! I had to go outside to find my own space. I have been working on my backyard, changing it from my dog’s area to my garden retreat. In October I added a pergola, in April and May I began the process of adding several garden beds, including a shade garden, raised vegetable beds, and three flower beds.

How are you making space for yourself? Let me know by commenting or liking the post.

Most of my weddings have been postponed or canceled altogether for 2020, but I am still dreaming about bouquets and tablescapes.

Anything is possible when you believe in yourself and you enjoy your work.

I am using this downtime to take classes, watch YouTube videos on gardening, and read as many articles, books, and blogs about design as I can.

I know some of you are taking Master Classes, learning languages, gardening, cooking, binge-watching Netflix, and working out.

Garden Renovation

I am taking this COVID-19 down time as an opportunity to rehab my backyard. My front garden is beautiful…now it is time to focus on the back! I can not wait to get started. The vision board above has some of my ideas. I already have a wonderful pergola. I am going to add raised beds, stone paths, a gate to the woods, shade garden, cutting garden, fire pit, and a fence made of old pallets!

Do you have any ideas for me? what do you think is a must in a garden? I have been binge watching Garden Rescue, Roots & Refuge Farm and P. Allen Smith on YouTube. I am ready to give this the old college try.

Wish me luck and please help me with any advice, tips, questions. Please use the comment section to speak to me!

Thank you for stopping, Celia

Kitchen design that brings nature inside

I love these windows that open your kitchen up to nature.

These new window designs are so smart! They allow you to cook and enjoy your outdoor space at the same time.

Hope you are having a good summer.

This project makes me smile, it is a dental office.

Falmouth Dental Arts have moved into a new space and I am helping them with their design. We want to have a coastal, relaxed, professional vibe without being too coastal. So we are using greys, whites, soft blues and charcoal, and lots of textures. We are mixing textured wallpaper, woods, concrete, velvet, wool and glass.

We are putting together a plan to transform the new space into a hip office. I have to say I love the employees of this office, they are fantastic. The Dentists Brian and Adonis are so approachable, I can only imagine how amazing they are at their jobs.

Although we had a bit of a rough start having to move into the space before it had been renovated, things are really coming together now! We have painted, wallpapered, added tile and shiplap to the fireplace, and much more!

Here are some of the products & furnishings we have selected.

Wallquest grasscloth in grey has been installed and looks great!
I adore this rug it is perfect, it is interesting, durable, and beautiful.
These Four Hands Chairs are so hip and cool, the perfect vibe for these doctors.
Side tables that will stay in place are very important in commercial spaces, these cement tables will be great.
Natural elements, like this wood coffee table, add depth to the design.
Magazine racks that double as side tables, yes please.
This is the Celia Sofa, my design for Pasha Home Furnishings.
We are making one in a light blue-grey in this project.

All right that is your sneak peek when the project is done I will photograph it and show you the end results.

The Last of the Fall Arrangements

As many of you know, I love flowers, and floral arranging. These are the last of my fall arrangements, I made them for my Thanksgiving tables.

I used Orange Roses, Millet, Thistle, Coffee Berries, Feathers, Assorted Greens and other fillers. I also tucked in mini white pumpkins, kale, Bartlett pears and mini red pears into the arrangements. Can you see the pumpkin and pear nestled into the greens below?

Celia Bedilia Fall 1

I purchased flowers from both Skillins (my local greenhouse), and Trader Joe’s. The cashier at TJ’s referred to my choices as Dr. Seuss flowers. I would have to disagree, but I look forward to your feedback!

Celia Bedilia Fall

I like to add something unexpected to my arrangements, in this case feathers. These feathers came from Pottery Barn, I have been using them for years and they still look great!

Celia Bedilia Fall1

The thistle is such a pretty and subtle blue color, and although it is not a striking feature, it does add texture and color.

Celia Bedilia Fall 2

I adore these urns from Park Hill, they are rustic and yet chic.

Celia Bedilia Fall 3

These arrangements added a lot of drama to my thanksgiving tablescape, now I have one on a coffee table and the other on my kitchen table…it feels a little over done…I love it!

Celia Bedilia Fall 4

What do you think of my arrangements? Do they belong in a Dr. Seuss book or on a coffee table book?

Celia Bedilia Fall 6

Well as always thank you for stopping by! I hope you and your families are doing well.

Celia

Tropical Design Ideas

I am currently working on a project in Florida. It is such fun to take a break from coastal Maine style and dive into tropical design.

I love the vibe of this place. It is going to be a very elegantly casual. The home owners like quality and style, but they want their guests and family to feel at home.

I cant wait to see everything come together!

Thanks for stopping by! Hope you like my selections.

Refined rustic master bedroom

Refined rustic, is the newest off shoot of the rustic design movement. Here is the concept, use rustic elements, like wood, metal and linen in transitional design.

I am working on a master bedroom for clients, the husband loves rustic and the wife does not. As any designer will tell you, this is common place, designers have to blend styles on a daily basis. Below, you can see the boards I have put together for a master bedroom with a refined rustic-coastal vibe.

Most of these furniture pieces can be mixed and matched differently. I like my clients to pick out items that really speak to them, so the first set of boards help me hone in on their style.

What do you like and dislike about these options? Are you a fan of the current rustic design craze? Or are you ready to see something new?

Thank you for stopping by, please let me know your thoughts!

Happy Birthday America!

WHITE HOT SUMMER

White is hot this summer. I love white, and it never feels crisper than in the heat of summer. It is so effective at highlighting texture, form and showcasing the colors with it.

Here are some of my favorite uses of white.

This kitchen from Dwell magazine demonstrates how the texture of the wood and wood tile, really pop when paired with white.

House Beautiful, featured these beautiful white rooms, the bedroom is so soothing and inviting and the bath looks so clean.

Look at how the black of doors and the green of the trees pop in this photo from Home and Design.

In this room, also from Home & Design, white is mixed with soft blue, and chocolate brown is used to showcase the items in the builtin bookcases.

Do you want to have this look without committing to an entire room? Try adding a collection of white in one area of your home. I love this pottery from Etsy.

Summer is too short in Maine. I always take the time to freshen, and lighten the look of my house. I want to savor every moment.

Enjoy your summer. I am doing a wedding this weekend hope to have pictures to share soon.
