5 Inexpensive Ideas to Refresh Your Home & Life

I do not think I am alone when I say we all need a little refresh right now. I am low on event and floral design projects due to COVID-19, which means money is not flowing in, and I am home all the time. I have spent most of my time off in the garden. I have created five new gardens beds in my backyard. I used all seeds and split plants from my front yard and transplanted then to the back. My husband is a banker and loves that I have become thrifty…I will not tell him it is temporary. Today I am focusing on my interior for the first time in months. I needed a little refresh, and I thought I would share my inexpensive ideas. I hope you enjoy them!

Flowers always make my home look clean and cared for. I will go out to the garden after I clean my house and bring in some flowers!

Fresh paint is an incredible way to bring new life to your space. It will cost you $40+ a gallon, but it gives you a big bang for your buck!

I love container gardening; you can do this anywhere if you have a window you can have a garden. I love getting my hands dirty and watching seeds, seedlings, or plants thrive. You can spend just a few dollars to get huge rewards.

Flea Markets are great places to go right now, grab your mask and hand sanitizer, and get out hunting for that statement piece you have been longing to find.

This suggestion is my husband’s favorite because it costs nothing. Rearrange your rooms, try something new, bring a piece of furniture from one space into another. I am moving a chair from my guestroom down to my family room, and moving a sofa from one area to another…moving things motivates me to clean and declutter, and it refreshes the space.

Which of these ideas inspires you to create beauty? What could you do to refresh your home?

I would love to hear from you, please let me know by commenting or liking my post.

STAY AT HOME: CREATE, COOK, PLAY

This Spring, you may not be entertaining family for Passover or Easter, but you can do this project. Although we are sheltering in place, it does not mean we are not celebrating. Bring life into your home with this centerpiece. I am going to my local nursery (Skillins.com); they are doing curbside pick-ups now. So I will be getting the supplies I need to create some urns for my front door and a centerpiece for my kitchen island. As always, my puppy Georgia is my shadow, cleaning, planting, planning for the upcoming wedding season.

Thank you all for stopping by. I hope you are well. Please send me photos of your creations. Let me know if you like the post by commenting or liking it!

Stay healthy, safe, creative and most importantly stay home!

Relaxing Sunday Flower Arranging

I love an excuse to chill out in my studio. It is Sunday, and I finished my gardening just before the sky went black and the rain came. Now, I have an excuse to play in my studio!

Hope you are enjoying your Sunday! How do you like to unwind?

Sell your inspiration to a client through photography

We all know at a restaurant we eat with our eyes first. How many times have you looked at what other diners have ordered and commented on it? “That looks good” or “let’s ask the waitstaff about that”. Well, wedding design is the same; we need to sell our concept with images that excite our clients and explain our vision. Below is my concept for a wedding I am designing in July.

I can’t wait to get started! I think the colors are so pretty and they will pop against the navy patterned tablecloths, shown below!

Hope you like the vision, thankfully my clients did!

Enjoy Summer!!!

The 5 MUST HAVES, for a successful Wedding or Event

What makes a great party? Family, friends, food, flowers, and music.

I am working on, several weddings this summer, and as I sit at my desk procrastinating, I begin to break down what it is that makes a great party or wedding.

  1. Family: The gathering of the family to celebrate a birthday, wedding or even dinner can be both stressful and meaningful. We would not want to celebrate certain milestones without our families, but they do add to the stress of the day.  Some people feel stress when entertaining family, they think everything must be perfect for their families, other people simply feel stressed having family attend events. I am fortunate to have a wonderful and very large family. We just like being together, but I must admit I still like things to be perfect for them.

This is my niece’s birthday party this Christmas day in Rome. We had family, flowers from the flower stand at the end of our road, amazing locally sourced food and great music!
  • Food: Food is extremely important to me. I went to culinary school, and although I no longer work as a chef, I do cook daily. To me good food is simple, fresh, whole ingredients made with love or passion. When I was head chef at a small Inn in Cambridge MA in the mid-nineties, I was shocked to learn that not everyone loved food. Some people just eat to live, rather than live to eat. No matter what category you fit into, you must have good food at your celebration. So pick your caterer well, ask them questions about food, what inspires them? Where do they purchase their produce, do they source items locally? What was their most memorable event and why?

I love a good farm stand, this is one I love to revisit. Everything is so beautifully displayed,  you can feel the owners love of food and pride of product.
  • Friends: Whether you are the host, bride, or guest of honor, having friends attend your event will make it unforgettable. Think about your guest list, who must come, who would you like to come, and who are you inviting because you feel like you have to include them? I would drop the last group and stick to the core group, but I am not in a social tier where this exists. More and more, dogs are making the wedding scene these days. Man’s best friend, I guess it makes sense, yet let me be clear, I am against this idea.

  • Wedding Dog
    Ring bearer pillow, or bed?
  • Flowers: Please if you know anything about me, it is that flowers and candles are everything to me. Beautiful arrangements, and table-scapes tell a story.  The story can be rustic, elegant, formal or casual. Just please don’t forget the flowers. I like to do my own arrangements, but if you are not a flower person, go to your local farm, florist or Wholefoods and hire them. A lot of farms in Maine do wedding flowers.
  • Music: Now listen up…music creates the vibe of the party. I like live music, but I also like DJ’s, Ipod sets, Spotify, etc. Do yourself a favor, think your music choices through, who is attending your event? Plan to play something for everyone. I hosted a birthday party for a friend last year, and we went with a Spotify Jazz dinner set. It was perfect, it was just enough music in the background to keep the party going.
  • Alright guys thanks for stopping by and have a happy and safe New Year. May all your dreams come true in 2019. I feel very fortunate to have you all in my life.

    Best,

    Celia

Celebrate friends and family don’t sweat the small stuff

    Hi guys,

Thanks for dropping by! This weekend I am being entertained and entertaining VIPS from DC and The Bay Area (SFO) in what we referred to as “The City”, but most of you think of as NYC. Unfortunately, my favorite June 2017 couple are in Maine, so I will not see them! This is a floral arrangement from their wedding!

Anyway, having/making time for VIP events no matter what VIP means to you, is important. We need to realize who our VIPS are and cherish the fact that they want to be with us, celebrate us, and cherish our relationships.

We all get caught up in how we are perceived, but it is more important that we spend less time impressing and more time enjoying. I met with one of my favorite families today, they get this concept, they are so lovely and understand that my goal is to make the bride’s dreams come true!

So to all my Brides & Grooms major in the majors, everyone is coming to celebrate your wedding and love, do not stress about things you cannot control! Love you all!

Practice for my August 18th wedding!

By the way the highlight of my day was at the gym this am, working out next to one of my favorite people Susie, and meeting Flip!

Flip I am stopping by to see your garden!

I am so thankful my husband brought me to Maine 18 years ago this April, what a long, strange, wonderful trip it has been!

    Thanks for stopping by!

    London Flower School Floristry Class

I love doing the flowers and decorating for weddings, in my opinion there is nothing more fun than a good wedding.

I have several weddings this summer, and I am always looking for inspiration and an excuse to travel abroad. I have signed up for a profesional floristry class at the London Flower School for the last week of May & beginnning of June. I am planning to go a bit early so I can attend the RHS Chelsea Flower Show. I feel so lucky to have this opportunity, I am truly blessed!

The London Flower School looks like a marvelous program. As a designer, I understand scale, color, and composition, but I know I can learn a great deal from the LFS instructors.

In my last post, I made promises to myself, to learn something new every month, well now I know that in May and June, I will be fulfilling my promise by taking this course. I have also kept my promises to add time for meditation weekly, and to practice patience with myself and others daily.

Thank you for stopping by, I will keep you in the know as I; learn, try, perfect, start and quit activities along this journey of mine. Hope you are well. I would love to hear from anyone of you at anytime, feel free to comment on, or like my posts.

    Arrivederla,

    Celia

The Last of the Fall Arrangements

As many of you know, I love flowers, and floral arranging. These are the last of my fall arrangements, I made them for my Thanksgiving tables.

I used Orange Roses, Millet, Thistle, Coffee Berries, Feathers, Assorted Greens and other fillers. I also tucked in mini white pumpkins, kale, Bartlett pears and mini red pears into the arrangements. Can you see the pumpkin and pear nestled into the greens below?

    Celia Bedilia Fall 1

I purchased flowers from both Skillins (my local greenhouse), and Trader Joe’s. The cashier at TJ’s referred to my choices as Dr. Seuss flowers. I would have to disagree, but I look forward to your feedback!

    Celia Bedilia Fall

I like to add something unexpected to my arrangements, in this case feathers. These feathers came from Pottery Barn, I have been using them for years and they still look great!

    Celia Bedilia Fall1

The thistle is such a pretty and subtle blue color, and although it is not a striking feature, it does add texture and color.

    Celia Bedilia Fall 2

I adore these urns from Park Hill, they are rustic and yet chic.

    Celia Bedilia Fall 3

These arrangements added a lot of drama to my thanksgiving tablescape, now I have one on a coffee table and the other on my kitchen table…it feels a little over done…I love it!

    Celia Bedilia Fall 4

What do you think of my arrangements? Do they belong in a Dr. Seuss book or on a coffee table book?

    Celia Bedilia Fall 6

Well as always thank you for stopping by! I hope you and your families are doing well.
